Week 58: SNOW

HAPPY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING.

I can't even believe it's that time of the year again. Time is literally flashing before my eyes.

I just wanted to start out by saying, God is just so good. This past week has been just wonderful, even from the very beginning.

Transfer day was Tuesday and because I lived in Richmond (which is central to our mission and where the mission office is located), we got to have so many other sisters stay with us for different parts of the day while they waited for their new companions to arrive. First thing in the morning, Sister Seiter dropped off her baby (my grand baby) Sister Crane, and then Sister Seiter headed to Surrey. Sister Crane got to stay with us until her new companion, Sister Ricks (who was my companion in Surrey) came and got her. So then I got to say goodbye to all of my favorite Sisters. IT WAS WONDERFUL! How grateful am I not only today, but everyday, for the people that God has blessed me with who have made a permanent imprint on my life. He certainly knows what and who we need. And Sister Hubert is no exception.

Eventually I headed up North, and yes it has already started snowing up here in Prince George.

Pray for me lol.

Besides the cold, Prince George is just wonderful, and the people here are a m a z i n g. I've been told that PG (Prince George) is the promised land, and man is that ever true. I don't think I've ever taught so many people in my life. They are each so wonderful, with such unique backgrounds, but so many have the honest desire to improve the quality of their life, to refocus their priorities, and to build their relationship with God.

I know it's really just Canadian Thanksgiving, but my heart is full with gratitude for the Savior and his impact on my life. How grateful I am for this selfish, once in a life time opportunity I have to serve for 18 months and be His hands here in the Canada, Vancouver Mission. There truly is no greater call. I love Him. And I know that it is because of Him and through living His teachings that we all "may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness." Mosiah 2:41.

"Our ability and capacity to experience joy and happiness has nothing to do with our circumstances, but everything to do with our focus." And I know that as we focus on our Savior, and follow him, that our joy will be full, always. And that's a promise.

I sure love you guys!

Love always,
Sister Robertson

Week 57: I will be abitious for Christ

Ni hao wo de jia ting,

Basically that means, hello my family in Chinese. Don't get too impressed, I haven't learned to become fluent and I just had one of the Chinese-speaking missionaries type that up for me. My Chinese is poor at best. Essentially, I've learned how to say hello, and Jesus Christ. That's all I need right?

Any ways, Transfer calls were this past weekend. I am being moved up North to Prince George...
just in time for the winter ;) My new companion is Sister Hubert, we served together in Surrey, she is wonderful and has been out 1 transfer longer than me!

In other news, my sweet baby, Sister Seiter is going to be an STL in Surrey! I am so so happy for her!

This past week's General Conference was absolutely wonderful. If you didn't get an opportunity to catch all 4 sessions, please go do!

Every single speaker spoke so beautifully about our Savior, Jesus Christ. His life, his ministry, his divinity. I know that He is truly the Savior and Redeemer of the world. He loves us so so much, and has given us everything.

"He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation." 2 Nephi 26:24

Jesus Christ has given us everything. He atoned for the sins, sorrows, infirmities, afflictions, disappointments, and grief of the world. You name it, and He has felt it. And He did that because He understands. He knows this life is hard, He knows that we experience tragedy, trials, and afflictions. And He loves us.

He wants us so desperately to find joy and to be able to be cleansed from sin, and return to live with our Heavenly Father again. He died, so that you and I, could overcome everything that we experience in mortality. His sacrifice has the power to cleanse us, heal us, and enable us to do things beyond our own capacities.

The gift of the atonement is available to all, if we choose it.

Maybe this is sacrilegious, but sometimes when I reflect the atonement of Jesus Christ I think about Harry Potter. Now bare with me for a moment. You know that scene when Harry is talking to the Professor trying to get his memory so that he can know what Voldemort asked him about that day. Personally, I find that scene very powerful. As Harry reminds the professor of his mother, who died to protect him. And says that in that moment, that her death will be completely for nothing if they can't overcome Voldemort.

Jesus Christ has already paid the price. His sacrifice is infinite and it's reality and power much greater than the movie Harry Potter. But that sacrifice and atonement is pointless, it is all a waste if we choose to not come to him, and allow him to heal us, allow him to lead us home. I know that repentance is the central purpose of our lives. It is a joyful process that allows us to become better and stronger, and allows us to reap all the blessings of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Each of us are the inn-keepers here, and we decide how much room we have for the Savior.

I just want to leave my witness that He lives and loves us, and it is never to late to turn to him.

Love always,
Sister Robertson

Week 56: Faith, trust, and General Conference

FAM JAM,

How is everyone doing down South?

This past weekend we had the opportunity to watch the General Women's Session of Broadcast. Let me just say, IT WAS AMAZING! Richmond is part of the Surrey Stake so we got to watch it at the Surrey Church Building which was my very first area on my mission..... what a tender mercy! I got to see all of my old members, and they recognized me really quickly when they heard me laugh. Unfortunately Sima and Shelby weren't there, so I didn't get to see my two babies, but that's okay!

Literally every single talk given was like an answer to my prayers, and I was hoping to share some insights from President Uchtdorf's talk, but I accidentally left my journal at home. Sorry guys! I've really been slacking these past few weeks! Of course his written talk isn't up on lds.org yet, so I'll just include an attachment to the video. Essentially I just realized, and was reminded again and again, that we need to have faith and trust in God as we pray for guidance.

"Faith in Jesus Christ is more than a passive belief in Him. It means believing that He is the Son of God and that He suffered for your sins, afflictions, and infirmities.  It means acting on that belief. Faith in Jesus Christ leads you to love Him, trust Him, and obey His commandments."

I think too often I forget that God knows the bigger picture. He sees things that we can not. But I know that our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ love us. Perfectly. Our faith allows us to trust in their will and love for us, that everything that we experience in this life truly will work out for our best benefit. Faith and trust build us up and allow us to remember God's eternal plan for his children.

"For I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day."   Alma 36:3

LOVE YA'LL HUGE! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Love always,
Sister Robertson

Pictures for the week:

So apparently Once Upon a Time is filmed here in Richmond BC, right in my area so last P-day we decided to go for a look. Luckily for us, they just happened to be preparing to film last week and so they had already switched all the signs on all the shops from their regular "steveston sign" to say "storybrooke". It was so fun!

1) Obvious.

2) Granny's diner

3) Mr. Golds shop... they clearly weren't done setting everything up lol

Week 55: Because I have been given much I too must give

HEY HOME <3

This week was a little bit of a roller coaster, but needless to say everyone survived.

I sang a solo in church this week, and pretty much died inside, but the sweet ward members were so good to me.

I have been so grateful for our recent additional 30 minutes of study for the Book of Mormon is our mission. I can tell you that nothing brightens up my day more than reading that book. Learning more about my Savior, Jesus Christ has meant the world to me. After all, this life can be, scratch that, is hard.

12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo,because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.  Helaman 5:12

That verse doesn't say, if the devil shall send hard things your way, but when. I know that regardless of who we are, that each of us experiences challenges and trials. We each live in mortality and are subject to the mighty winds and storms of this world. However, I know that as we build our foundation on Jesus Christ, that we will stand triumphant. He will never desert us. He is the light of the world. Today I'm having a hard time pulling my thoughts together, but I feel impressed to share these next verses with ya'll.

I know that Jesus Christ lives and loves you. He has personally been through everything that you have and will endure. And He has done it because He loves you. What a miraculous truth. These next verses describe Jesus Christ as he appeared to the people in the ancient Americas. As He bore witness of his reality and the hope-filled truth, that because of Him, we can all return to live with our Heavenly Father, and we can find joy both now, and in the eternities.

8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them.

9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:

10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.

11 And behold, I am the light and the life of the world;and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.

I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know He lives.

I LOVE YOU ALL

Love always,
Sister Robertson

Week 54: Not Today Satan

To all my favorites ❤

So sad to hear about the recent natural disasters down in the South! Nothing is more heart warming to hear about, then how the communities have all come together to support one another! I am praying for all the families that have been affected!

Today I'd like to share some of the things I have been learning over these past weeks here in Richmond.

The adversary, Satan, is real. He is a miserable man, and "he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself." 2 Nephi 2:27

God is our loving Heavenly Father. He loves us. We are His children, and I know that He has so much in store for us. Satan knows that too. He understands our divine potentials and he has no desire for us to reach them, or to be able to experience all of the blessings and joy that God has in store for us. Each of us go through so many challenges and trials in this life. Sometimes we feel like we are in the dark, sometimes we feel like we'll never be good enough, or like we can't possibly overcome the 'next seemingly insurmountable hurdle'. We each experience it, but I know that the hope of God's light is real. He loves us so much and that is exactly why He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to the earth. We don't have to do it alone, and in fact we can't do it alone. But I can promise each and everyone of you that God makes up the difference. It doesn't matter how far we have fallen, how lost we may feel that we are, or how confused this world leads us to be, through Jesus Christ we can overcome all.

One of our biggest miracles this week was Betty. Her experience, coupled with others I have had this week, are a testimony tome of the power of the adversary, but that God is ever near. He knows us and He knows exactly what we need and He will continue to guide us.

Betty is a recent convert to the church. I have never met her before, she is from Burnaby. Well, on Saturday, Sister Gartside and I felt good about trying to contact at this park. So we get there and it's not really the park we were thinking, and there was barely anyone in sight. We stopped to talk to this woman and she saw our name tags and said, "You are from the Latter-Day Saints?" We said, "Yeah! How do you know that church?" She said that that was her church, but that recently she has been really confused. That she has been wondering if it really was the right church any more. She said so many of her friends and others have been saying such terrible things about the Book Of Mormon and that we're not Christian and she has just been feeling confused. She didn't understand why people were being so mean about all of it. But she immediately felt as if us being there that day and stopping to talk to her, must've been an answer to her prayers. We were able to bare witness to her that it indeed was. And that God knows her so perfectly. She shared her conversion experience and we were able to help her confirm her own testimony, and to truly remember, like the scriptures teach us, those experiences God had given her in the past. She was so happy, and amazed that God continues to answer her prayers.

I was so happy that day to have been blessed to be a tool in Gods hands. To be answer to one of his dearest children's prayers. And I know that is something that each of us can do as we act on the promptings of the spirit. It was an answer to a prayer of my own that day.

(Stealing this from one of my favorite missionaries e-mails the other week. Some of you know sweet Sofia and have already read this poem.)

I'd been in that hole for a very long time.
In the dark and the damp, in the cold and the slime.
The shaft was above me; I could see it quite clear, but there's
No way I remember the world way up there,
So I lost all my hope and gave into despair.

I knew nothing but darkness, the floors, and the walls,
When from off in the distance I heard someone call,
Get up!  Get ready! There's nothing the matter!
Take rocks and takes sticks and build up a fine ladder.
This had never occurred to me, had not crossed my mind
So I started to stack all the stones I could find.

When I ran out of stones, the old sticks were my goal,
For some way or another I'd get out of that hole.
So I soon had a ladder that was really quite tall,
And I thought, "I'll soon leave the place for once and for all!"
Then I climbed up my ladder, it was no easy chore
For from lifting those boulders my shoulders were sore.

So I worked and I climbed and at last had to stop,
For my ladder stopped short some ten feet from the top.
I climbed back down the ladder and felt all around,
But there were no more boulders nor sticks to be found.
I went back to my ladder and started to cry.
I'd done all I could do; I gave my best try.

But in spite of my work , in the hole I must die,
And all I could do was sit and think, Why?
Was my ladder too short? Or my hole much too deep?
Then from way up on high came a voice: "Do not weep."
And then hope, love, and faith entered my chest,
As the Voice said to me that I'd done my best.

He said, nothing's the matter. There is reason to hope.
Just climb up the ladder; I'll throw down my rope.
You have worked very hard, and your labor's been rough,
But the ladder you've built is at last tall enough.
I climbed up the ladder, then climbed up the cord.
When I stood at the top, there stood the Lord.

I've never been happier, my struggle was done.
I blinked in great brightness that came from the Son.
I fell to the ground; his feet did I kiss.
I cried, what can I do to repay thee for this?
He looked all around Him, there were hole in the ground.
They had people inside, and were seen all around.

There were thousands of holes that were damp, dark, and deep.
Then the Lord turned to me and He said, " Feed my sheep."
Then He went on His way to help other lost souls,
And I got right to work, calling down to the holes,
Get up! Get ready! There's nothing the matter!
Take rocks and take sticks and build up a fine ladder!

It now was my turn to spread the good word.
The most glorious message that man ever heard.
That there's one who is willing to save one and all,
And we've got to be ready when He gives the call.
He'll pull us all out of the hole that we're in,
And save all our souls from death and from sin.
So do not lose faith; there is reason to hope:
Just build up your ladder; He'll throw down His rope.

I love you all so so much and I know that God is always with you. He will protect you and He will help you to overcome the temptations and doubts of the adversary. There is always hope.

Love always,
Sister Robertson

Pictures for the week:
1) Malika is from Quebec a.k.a France, and the Sisters had found her right before I moved to Richmond. She is absolutely wonderful, but we had to say our goodbyes because she is heading back to Quebec!

2) MIRACLE. I can't remember if I had the time to share our experience about Jerry in my past e-mails. But God certainly knows His children.

3) The Chinese (speaking) Sisters <3 They live two floors below us (:

Week 53: Canada had a holiday - It's been 1 year

Surprise! Yesterday was a Holiday and so our P-day got moved to today!

I'm running out of time and somehow we went an entire week without taking pictures so I'll go ahead and repent and be better about that for next week!

Fun fact, I did hit my year mark this past week... I think I died a little bit inside writing that, but a picture from that will be coming soon!

Also, tender mercies from Heavenly Father, we got a car a couple of days ago and so transit will no longer be a thing. It is still weird serving so close to the mission office, but nothing is better than getting to see President and Sister Burt so often!

I love you all and hope all is going well back home!

Since my letter home this week is pretty lame, here is a link to one of my favorite Mormon Messages.

The apostles words are much better than mine really. But, I do know that God loves us so much. It's the testimony I have had for the longest and is one that continues to grow every single day as I am blessed to be His hands here in British Columbia. He knows what is best for us and His greatest desire is for us to be so happy. Although we don't always see things that way, I know that everything we face in this life allows us to learn and to grow, and most importantly, draw closer to Him.

Love Always,
Sister Robertson

ps. as for my address, now that I am living right beside the mission office it will just be easier to send things there! Whether it be to the Point Roberts address, or to

(Also, I told her about the service that the saints have been doing by going down and helping in Louisiana with LDS Helping Hands.
This is what she wrote back:So glad to hear about the service! There is something amazing about getting to serve along side with other saints, and realizing how many of us are here working in God's army!
